Fabulous Create and Craft Ideas for children’s birthdays
Ideal World’s Create and Craft TV presenter and all round creative Guru, Stephanie Weightman, looks to make craft a fun thing for all the family to do. Chopsy Baby loves these crafty ideas of hers to make your child’s birthday become a success.
Stephanie says: “Children’s parties are a perfect way to incorporate fun, money saving crafty ideas. Crafting doesn’t have to take the form of traditional activities like painting etc, but can be incorporated in everyday activates, It’s more about being interactive, and taking the time to come up with clever, fun in-expensive ways to involve your party guests!
Here are a few suggestions:
“Use large plain sheets of paper as the tablecloth and leave crayons and markers on the table for the kids to draw freely on the table and create their own place masterpieces!
“Get water-based paint and different colours, and create potato stamps by cutting out shapes in the potatoes. The kids can create their own ‘personal mark’ and put it on their goodie bag, their table place, etc
“Ask guests to bring their own mugs to create personalised cups to use at the party then take home as a souvenir. Create & Craft offer a paint that allows you to paint ceramics, and then set them in the oven. The mugs are then dishwasher and microwave safe!
Guests can bring their own old t-shirts to re-vamp and then get all the other kids at the party to sign then as part of an ‘exclusive’ group!
Paper beads are also great, and can be created from old sweetie wrappers, or magazines. Simply roll them up and thread them onto a piece of string. These can be used to create necklaces and bracelets.
The party host can take a group shot of everyone at the party and this can be printed and given out in the goody bags.
Themed parties are great – football teams are always a favourite for boys. Activities can then be based around this i.e. Mugs/ t-shirts can be designed in their favourite team colours etc
Salt clay is an old favourite – Simply put a mix of flour, water and salt in a bowl on the table and allow the kids to create their favourite characters, names, shapes etc. then bake them in the oven for 1-2 hours and then allow them to paint them and take home.
The important thing is that children love to create things that will either win them praise (i.e. a gift for mum etc) or something to call their own that’s personalised. With a little clever thinking you can create a great, affordable party they will never forget!”
