Giant Illuminated Advertising Boards Proposed for Busy Bond Street Roads

Bond Street and Temple Way Giant digital Sign Application: Planning applications for controversial digital adverts have been submitted to Bristol City Council for approval.

Should they be successful, digitally changing illuminated boards will dominate Bond Street pavements next to Cabot Circus, and the central reservation of Temple Way.

The giant advertising boards will stand 3 meters above the road with the display then extending a further 7.5m in height and 5m in width. Adverts would change every ten seconds.

Planners say that the Bond Street road layout is ‘not complex’ with the road approach towards the sign ‘undemanding on a driver’.

The application has been submitted by JCDecaux UK Limited who are based in Middlesex. Planners are unlikely to be frequent users of Bond Street crossings, a place of extremely high footfall being based directly opposite Cabot Circus Shopping Centre.

We Say: Bond Street is around the corner from where Chopsy Bristol is based. We cross it a minimum of six times a day. It is one of the main arterial roads into and around the central area and incredibly dangerous during peak times. Red lights do not guarantee cars will stop and for the sake of pedestrians, not a place where any additional distractions would be helpful.
