Mums lie about mishaps to appear perfect

The pressure on modern day mums to be perfect leaves 53 per cent lying to others about how they parent.

The research by BabyCentre found that 32 per cent of mums admitted not being truthful with their midwife or health visitor.

Out of 1,000 mums polled for the study, nine out of ten mums use the TV to keep kids quiet and one third use it to replace the bedtime story.

The survey also found that two fifths of mums compare one of their children unfavourably to another.

One in three also admitted forgetting to strap their baby into the car seat.

Spokesperson for BabyCentre, Sasha Miller said: “What I find really interesting is how mums tell us that they try to keep up appearances with parents they meet in the real world but online there is nothing they won’t share. In our community on BabyCentre mums are always confessing to less-than-perfect mummy moments. And they find that when they do, they get a chorus of other mums saying: ‘Oh yes, I’ve done that too!’ You can be anonymous in the online world so it’s easier to be honest and it makes you feel so much better to find out that you’re not alone.”
