Parents willing to consider fostering children

Local authorities are desperately crying out for foster carers, but their appeals are not being effective as there are many parents out there willing to consider fostering as an option.

Of the 1,784 UK parents polled by BabyChild.org.uk, a total of 21 per cent of parents said they would consider fostering a child.

A 52 per cent of these parents said they felt compassionate towards children needing help.

Seeing a television programme about fostering caused 27 per cent to start thinking about it, and one per cent had fostered before and would do so again.

Co-founder of BabyChild.org.uk, Jill Tovey said: “Finances can often interfere with the decision to either start or expand a family. There are so many different ways to help children, whether by adopting, sponsoring, or fostering them and it is really nice to see that parents are willing to get involved and welcome children that aren’t there own biologically into their homes.”
