Police Patrols For The Bristol To Bath Cycle Path After Attacks

Police are responding to a spate of attacks on the Bristol to Bath Cycle Path with high visibility patrols.

Residents in East Bristol have taken to Facebook community sites to warn other cycle path users about gangs of young people targeting cyclists with violence.

One incident involved a group of 15-20 people attacking a man on a bike near Easton Community Centre. A day later, a woman warned local residents on Facebook that a ‘gang’ of 10-15 under 15 year olds had kicked her off her bike near Bruce Road.

“This anti-social behaviour is completely unacceptable – the public should be able to feel safe and secure when using the path day or night,” Inspector Justin French from Avon and Somerset said.

“We will be carrying out further high-visibility patrols along the path this weekend.

“And we will be using dispersal notices to move anyone acting anti-socially away from the area.”

“We’d also urge anyone who spots groups of young people being intimidating, anti-social or blocking the path to call 101 or 999 if they fear a crime is being committed.”
