Pregnancy takes its toll on dads too
Pregnancy affects dads as well as mums according to comedian Troy Jones, the creator of the Being Dad documentary series.
A study conducted by the TV series reveals a true insight into the minds and habits of dads-to-be.
Whilst women are huffing and puffing around under the strain that pregnancy takes on their body, 28 per cent of dads-to-be felt they were not ready for their new paternal role.
Further worries consuming dad’s mind during this time includes wondering if the baby is really theirs.
Troy believes the research is a real eye opener. “Our research found that 5% of new dads suffer from depression after the birth, this alone shows just how important it is to give more support to first time dads,” He says.
“There are many different support systems in place for the women, but the men appear to be largely left out of the process once pregnant! Perhaps this goes some way to explain why 11% of marriages breakdown within one year of birth?”
