Product placement restrictions to protect children

Television shows will be allowed to use product placement in their programmes, but restrictions are in place to protect children and their health.

Alcoholic drinks, tobacco, junk food, gambling, over-the-counter medicines, infant formula and follow on milk will all be banned.

The annoucement by Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Ben Bradshaw, also revealed that product placement in Children’s programmes will be banned.

Restrictions on types of foods and alcohol may also be placed on popular shows which are watched by lots of children or shown before the watershed.
