Thomas & Friends: Wobbly Wheels & Whistles DVD

The popularity of Thomas and his friends is never ending, flowing from generation to generation. Other characters from HIT Entertainment including Pingu, Fireman Sam, Angelina Ballerina and Roary the Racing Car enjoy the same success.

This must surely be attributed to the creators always putting a dam good story above flashy pow-wow animation. For at the heart of every Thomas story is a lesson learned and a friendship made or saved. That the characters are trains makes it all the more accessible to pre-school children, who are embarking on the same tricky tracks as the endearing Thomas, James, Gordon and Edward.

That’s not to forget all the other characters who make the stories possible. In this set of four tales – running time 54 minutes – just released on DVD, we are introduced to mucky pup Scruff the Scruncher. He will entertain youngsters and delight Fisher Price.

The new DVD comes in a box set complete with toy Thomas Whistle. Extras include some curious filmed scenes with Mr Perkins, the usual Thomas sing-a-long, a puzzle game and another fab short Down at the Station documentary.

Jen says: “Whilst for me as a parent, Thomas and Friends episodes blend into one hour of petulant but likeable engines being naughty, for some children, it is an accessible guide to train spotting that is obviously going to last well into middle age.

“Somewhere in this hour of more fun and frolics on the Island of Sodor, stand out episodes are Toby the Tram (who doesn’t come out in this episode – and many parents have wondered this because we have discussed it over coffee and cake). Toby needs his friends to help him overcome his fear of a dark wood.

“And, we revisit the mysterious Misty Island from which Thomas has to collect more Jobi Wood. Of course it isn’t going to be beer and skittles this time either.”

“This DVD will keep a two – five year old engrossed for an hour. Enough time to do the washing up, cook dinner, bath the baby or hang a picture. At around £12.99, this is a bargain.”

Best of all…
There has never been a poor Thomas episode yet and these new stories continue that high standard.

Could improve…
Nothing, but we bet you will be hiding that toy whistle somewhere deep and dark for the next ten years.

Basically…
This great DVD will entertain train loving toddlers and add to your growing knowledge of specialist subject: Steam trains and Thomas the Tank Engine.
