Swine flu panic calms but stay protected urges JCVI

Though the swine flu panic appears to be wrapping itself up, the The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) is advising the government to continue finishing the vaccination programme in case there should be a further re-emergence of H1N1 later this year.

Those with underlying illnesses, pregnant women and children between the ages of six months and five years are still being urged to have the vaccination, by Chief Medical Officer for England, Sir Liam Donaldson.

The number of people receiving antiviral drugs through the National Pandemic Flu Service last week was just 667 and the telephone line has now been wrapped up.

The Health Protection Agency are estimating the number of cases in the last week is still below 5,000, which has remained unchanged for the last eight weeks.
