The Snowman and the Snow Dog Book and CD read by Benedict Cumberbach – Review

snowman and snow dog

When you realise that you finished reviewing the Snowman and the Snowdog book and CD more than an hour ago, but Benedict Cumberbatch is still reading it outloud and you haven’t yet turned it off – well now it’s definitely time to get a grip.

The characters in this delightful story are based on those created by Raymond Briggs, with the story written by Hilary Audus and Joanna Harrison.

The CD is brilliant. Firstly because it is read by Benedict Cumberbatch. Secondly, because you can either listen to it being read as a story. And, thirdly, there is another recording featuring a turn-the-page sound, meaning young children can follow the words and know when it’s time to turn the page.

The story itself is rather bittersweet, featuring a dying old dog, the melting of the snowman but ultimately, a magical new puppy for Christmas.

The illustrations are gorgeous and the story appealing for all ages. The book and Benedict CD combination is a must.
