Tried and Tested: the pleasing and practical BABYFOOTPRINT reviewed

At last! Someone has invented a mess free way of creating the perfect baby footprint cast.

Most current options on the market for capturing your baby’s tiny foot impression involve either ink, paint or the potentially dangerous Plaster of Paris.

Now, created by clever Berlin based artist Marlies Von Soden and sold exclusively in the UK by online nursery retailer Hello Baby, the BABYFOOTPRINT will take an impression of your baby’s feet and store it in a safe and practical way.

The BABYFOOTPRINT comes in a pretty white card box embossed with the word ‘baby’ in silver or gold.

Similar in style to the addictively pokeable florist foam known as Oasis, the box contains a special soft foam that is highly sensitive to pressure and often used in podiatry.

Whilst the baby is asleep, a cast is taken by carefully pressing their foot into the foam. This creates a permanent record which can either be displayed or stored away in its self-contained box.

“New parents can be overwhelmed by the amount of baby products available to them,” Managing Director at Hello Baby, Trevor Ginn says. “However, we believe that the originality and style of the BABYFOOTPRINT really makes this product stand out. This is a beautiful product which will add a touch of art to the experience of new parents.”

Trevor Ginn is right. The BABYFOOTPRINT is a surprisingly impressive product. It has the unusual appeal of being both aesthetically pleasing and highly practical to use, display and store.

Due to the sensitive nature of the foam, this is a one shot attempt so the baby must be asleep to prevent wriggling feet from wrecking it.

Begrudgingly, we parted with the BABYFOOTPRINT, asking Bristol mum Emma Shipway to test it out with her two-week old baby boy Harry. Emma says: “Remain calm when taking the print, but timing is of the essence and it did feel a bit pressurised making sure I got it right first time. That said, I loved how easy it actually was to use in reality and it is a gorgeous little item. Love it.”

The BABYFOOTPRINT retails at £19.50 from Hello Baby’s website
