Trinity Road Police Station in Bristol Up for Sale
East Bristol Police Station to be Sold to Developers
The Trinity area of Bristol is arguably one of the busiest and most interesting areas in which to police, depending perhaps on your perspective.
There is never a quiet day in St Judes or its surrounding area. Luckily enough, Trinity Road Police Station is right in the heart of the BS2 locality. It’s a welcome sight opposite the imposing Trinity Centre heading up the Old Market areas of the city.
But now it’s all over for the police station, after a 2014 Estates Strategy decided the building is too large and costly for day to day policing in the area.
According to the report, only 10 per cent of the space is needed at a building with running costs averaging £250,000 each year.
Superintendent Andy Bennett said: “We know it is important to members of the community that there is a police station in the area, and we want to ensure that our officers and PCSO’s are based in the heart of the communities they serve.
“However we need an alternative option; the existing police station is too large for our needs and is expensive to run. We are looking to sell it but for the new plans to include a permanent police station on the same site. This would mean members of our community could still find us in the same location.”
Local residents and those who work in the area are being invited to come along and see the proposed plans on Monday 09 April between 12pm-2pm at Easton Business Centre (BS5 0HE) and Wednesday 11 April between 4-6pm at The Annex in the Broad Plain Boys Club (BS2 9ES).
Developers will be drawing up plans which will include a permanent police station
The new Trinity station will include an enquiry office open to the public Monday – Friday 10am – 6pm as well as a base for the local neighbourhood policing team for the Bristol East area. The current station will be put up for sale in the next few months, but is likely to carry on as it is until 2019/20.
Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “Every time I visit Easton, Lawrence Hill and the surrounding communities, local people tell me how important Trinity Road Police Station and the local neighbourhood team are to them.
“I have had many discussions with residents about why the existing station is too big for the Constabulary’s needs, expensive to maintain and not value for money; at the same time reiterating our ongoing commitment to maintaining a policing footprint in the area.
“I am therefore delighted to be exploring the possibility of a redevelopment opportunity for a new and improved station on Trinity Road, enabling the Constabulary to continue serving the local community while also delivering significant financial savings.”
