Parents Admit to Smacking their Children as Punishment

Smacking still appears to be a suitable way at dealing with undesirable behaviour according to a poll from VoucherCodesPro.co.uk.

A total of 2398 UK parents took part in the research to find out what methods parents use to discipline their children.

Findings showed that 42 per cent confiscated their child’s smartphone, 27 per cent took away other forms of technology and 15 per cent stopped pocket money.

Shockingly, 21 per cent admitted to having smacked their children at some point. Whilst the majority 93 per cent said they did this very lightly, a 7 per cent said they had smacked too hard and left a mark.

Reasons given for the violent behaviour included ‘nothing else was working’, ‘it showed how serious I was’ and the classic ‘I was smacked as a child and it taught me the difference between right and wrong’.

Most people said the smack was a one-off incident, though 9 per cent said they used smacking as a punishment often.
