Tyre labelling will help drivers make better safety choices

When it comes to buying car tyres, 95 per cent of motorists are not taking into consideration the safety implications of cheap replacements.

Whilst many families with tight budgets will resort to the cheapest tyre, independent research shows getting the right tyre can significantly improve the safety performance of a car.

Now Michelin are urging car drivers to wise-up to new EU legislation coming into force in 2012.

A safety rating label system will inform drivers exactly how safe their tyre choice is and how it will react in wet conditions.

Further information concerning the environmental impact and noise levels produced will also be available to consumers.

Michelin spokesperson, Jianni Geras said: “We welcome tyre labelling and hope that the information provided to the consumer will enable them to make an informed decision when it comes to purchasing tyres. It’s clear from the research that many consumers are unaware that the right tyre can save money in fuel economy but also make their vehicle safer.”
