Free or low cost computers available to Bristol residents

A new scheme has launched for low-income Bristol residents who can’t afford to buy a computer.

Bristol City Council are now making their surplus council computers available to the public as part of a new Recycled Computers scheme.

Computers no longer needed by the council will be refurbished and made available to residents either for free or a low cost.

Councillor Janke said: “We want Bristol to be an inclusive and connected digital city, where anyone who needs a computer at home can have one and it’s easy to get help to get connected to the internet. Recycling our redundant computers and giving them a new lease of life is much better than sending them to landfill and we hope that local businesses will follow our example and join the scheme by donating their old PCs and IT equipment.”

The scheme is aiming to build on the Home Access Initiative, which helped low-income families to access the internet at home.

Bristol residents who remain unperturbed about the possibilities of Wi-Fi hacking will now be able to access the internet for free at 37 new hotspots newly launched across the city.
