Sunny weather increases risk of children having accidents
Good weather seems to be responsible for increasing numbers of children having accidents.
Medical research published in Emergency Medicine Journal, looked at the effects of weather on admissions to UK emergency units.
Each time the temperature increases by 5°C, the number of hospital admissions for children suffering a serious injury increases.
The temperatures rises prompted a ten per cent increase in admissions and extra sunshine a 6 per cent rise.
Findings were based on 21 emergency care units in England between 1996 and 2006.
The rate of children being admitted between April and September could be as much as 50 per cent higher than average.
