How To… Mend a hole in plasterboard

This Chopsy Baby How To … is given as a guide. It does not replace quality workmanship.

You will need some basic equipment – all available in your local hardware store.

Polyfilla
Stanley Knife
Putty Knife
Some cardboard
A nail
String/shoelace
Sand paper
Paint
Coffee – Essential

Typical plasterboard hole

1. Use the knife to cut around the outside of the hole leaving a smooth edge.

2. You may need to pad out the cavity in the hole with newspaper.

3. Cut a piece of cardboard just slightly larger than the hole.

4. Make a hole in the cardboard, thread through the string and tie a nail to the end.

5. Put cardboard into the hole and pull the string leaving the card flush to the wall.

6. Now fill hole with Polyfilla according to manufacturer’s instructions. A putty knife is good for this.

7. Leave to dry. You may need more than one layer depending on the depth of the hole.

8. When dry, sand down until the surface the flat.

9. Paint or decorate.

10. Job done.
