Bristol museum gets HLF boost
Bristol’s newest museum due to open this year has been given a £1.39m boost from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
The cash will help the M Shed cover ‘unforeseen’ costs of around £26.6m.
The money is in addition to the £10.2million of HLF funding received at M Shed’s inception.
Head of Museums and Archives, Julie Finch said: “We would like to thank the HLF for their continued support and confidence in M Shed. The HLF decision recognises the difficulties we have had with a number of unforeseen elements associated with the major challenge of restoring a 1950’s harbourside, transit shed and transforming it into a 21st century state-of-the-art museum. The additional funding added to the ongoing support for staffing costs from DCMS will enable us to fully realise our ambitions for the museum in time for opening.”
