Financial cost stopping mothers extending family

The financial cost of adding to a family is putting mothers off of having more children.

Of 1,201 mothers with one child, polled by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk,76 per cent wanted more children but 51 per cent had to put baby plans on hold due to cost.

The study also found that 32 per cent of mothers delay extending their family so they can progress their career and 19 per cent didn’t like the effects pregnancy had on their body.

Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said: “It was really interesting to see the overriding reasons, particularly given that money was the most popular answer. This is, of course, completely understandable given the huge cost involved in having a family; and many can see the financial commitment involved in having another child as daunting.”
