Luckwell school children design new community feature in Bedminster park
School children at a south Bristol primary school will be able to see their art work come alive as part of a community project.
Youngsters in the reception classes at Luckwell Primary School in Bedminster, took part in a special workshop to create designs for a mosaic bench at Luckwell Park.
Members of the local community fed up with the dated equipment at the park formed community group Luckwell Improvement Project (LIMP) aiming to kick start some park improvements.
Founded by mothers Sarah Herbertson and Deborah Smith, LIMP successfully applied for funding from the Better Bedminster Community Chest.
Their first project has been to install a mosaic bench in the park, finally giving residents somewhere to sit down.
Local artist David Bowers of Mosaic Madness, has been working with community volunteers to help build the bench, incorporating Luckwell children’s designs.
LIMP co-founder, Deborah Smith says: “The children are really excited at the prospect of seeing their designs become a permanent fixture at the park. We are hoping to start transforming the park, project by project, to make it a really nice green space that children and their families in the local area can enjoy in years to come.”
The group is aiming to have the bench finished by the end of Thursday 27 July though there is still time to volunteer your help.
