Keep your hands happy first

It’s easy to forget about looking after your hands when you are busy changing nappies, creating mod rock sculptures, painting piggy banks and growing your own organic vegetables. Having hands in and out of water, drying out quickly, and not protecting them from the elements can make them age. None of us want to look any older any faster then we have to.

Chopsy Baby discovered a hand care range designed to protect busy working hands and thought it sounded perfect for parents.

Hands First Power Scrub+ & Moisturiser is designed to remove hard to shift dirt, grease or spaff from the hands. The scrub contains natural pumice and walnut shell to scrub and cleanse, with blue cypress oil to moisturise.

After doing this there is the Hands First Dry Feel Barrier Cream, which creates a non-sticky shield over the hands. A bit like putting nappy rash cream on your baby’s bum to create a barrier between the skin and the nappy contents, this works in a similar way.

Ellie Stokes, a mum of two from Staple Hill put both products through their paces. She says: “I was quite surprised at how good the Hands First products were. The packaging labels look almost industrial, as if it contains the kind of stuff you would stick shelves to the wall with.

“I used both products for a week, washing my hands in the hand cleanser once a day, and using the barrier cream intermittently a couple of times a day depending on how busy I was.

“I have to say that by using both products even once a day makes a huge difference to how my hands feel. They do feel much softer.

“My husband is a builder and his hands are always covered in brick dust, plaster and all sorts. He has been using the hand cleanser too instead of washing up liquid and it makes his hands cleaner much faster and smoother to the touch. Before he found it hard to get cement and plaster off his hands.

“I’m only a part time admin assistant when I work but I still enjoy using the hand wash as it has bits in that really get your hands clean.

“When I’m with the kids my hands are always in water for one thing or another and I find the barrier cream stops them getting dried out or feeling sore, like after we done a hand painting session.

“I also think it will be really helpful now I’m starting to think about working in the garden again.

“I liked the fact that the cream felt like it was protecting my hands, but did not feel greasy or rub off on anything I picked up.”
