Mums in Business: ella georgia jewellery

What could make Sian Foster give up a high flying career as a successful marketing executive that took her across the world, and launch an exclusive online jewellery business?

“There were two reasons really” she says  “I’ve been designing and making jewellery as a sideline since I was a child. It had always been a dream to run my own jewellery business. Even more importantly, I just could not bring up my daughter Ella the way I wanted to working in the corporate world.”

Having children is the turning point that inspires many mums to change their line of work and take up something that fits around their new family. Sian is no exception, naming her new jewellery business after her beautiful daughter Ella Georgia, and having a strong emphasis on her home life.

As well as living her dream making and selling her own chic jewellery, Sian also takes the moral responsibility of sourcing ethically produced items, believing that trade more than aid can help the alleviation of third world poverty.

Sian explains “ At ella georgia, our aim is to try and ensure that every component in every piece has been sourced to the highest ethical standards. We carefully and constantly vet our supply chains, and adhere strictly to Fairtrade principles.”

Being Fairtrade is just the start. Keeping the business green and sustainable is also a key factor in its day-to-day running. Again, this is another influence that children have on parents.  “ Being green became even more important to me with the birth of Ella, as I began to be concerned about the world she would grow up in.

“For this reason, all our packaging is recyclable, and made from recycled materials. We even buy our electricity from a company that produces energy solely from wind power.”

Looking good and feeling good is the key to Sian’s business. “I want people to look good wearing my jewellery, but also to feel good buying it, safe in the knowledge that no people or places have suffered in any way through its creation. Our jewellery will help you develop a signature style that’s all your own, with pieces that reflect your personality. As the late Yves St Laurent once said ‘Fashions fade, style is eternal’
