Change hospital statistics Kennel Club urges parents
Parents must have a greater awareness about their children’s safety around dogs say the Kennel Club.
Recent figures from the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) show that 16 per cent of incidents involving dogs happen to children under ten years of age.
This is the highest rate of admissions per age group for bites and dog related injury.
Of the 6,450 admissions to hospital a total of 1,040 were related to the under tens.
Making sure they know how to behave around dogs is something adults should make sure they approach with their children the club says.
The Kennel Club have launched their Safe And Sound scheme to educate children through games about how to behave safely around dogs.
