The naughty step the most popular way to discipline under fives

The time out spot, AKA the naughty step, is the most popular way of disciplining children research finds.

MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, polled more than 1,000 parents with at least one child younger than five years.

They asked about which methods they used when their children misbehaved.
A total of 68 per cent of parents used the naughty step, with 57 per cent saying they had seen the method used on the TV.

The second most popular method parents used was a warning system, with 52 per cent resorting to this.

The naughty step was found to be the most effective form of disciple by the 77 per cent of the parents who used it.

But only 31 per cent favouring the warning system found it worked most of the time.

Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, Mark Pearson says: “Having a family is certainly very exciting, but discipline is probably one of the most difficult aspects of raising a child. It can be hard to find an effective discipline method and stick to it, but every parent has to find the method that suits them and works best for their kids. Sometimes a little quiet time alone can sometimes be beneficial for both kids and parents- so in that respect, a time out spot can be good for all involved.”
