Majority of Parents Still Believe Smacking Children is an Effective Discipline

Smacking children is still seen as a suitable form of discipline by more than half of UK parents.

VoucherCodesPro.co.uk undertook a survey of 2,186 British parents to find out the most popular methods of dealing with children’s difficult behaviour.

Plonking them down on the naughty step was the most popular method, favoured by 65 per cent.

Sending them to their room, confiscating entertainment and grounding were the next most popular ways of dealing with bad behaviour.

But 11 per cent of parents said they preferred to wait until their partner came home and 8 per cent phoned the grandparents and asked them to intervene.

A total of 61 per cent of the parents taking part said that they believed smacking children was an effective method, though 51 per cent of these people worried about what other people would think.
