Ella’s Kitchen Launch Veg for Victory to Help Weaning Babies with Vegetable Intake

Has your toddler tried eating the veg on their plate without a battle? If not they won’t be the the only ones with new research showing that over 30,000 two year olds in the UK have never tried eating a vegetable.

One in three parents find the weaning stage confusing leaving them feeling stressed and down about their attempts to feed their baby.

One in three parents said they tried to distract their child with the TV during meal times and 46 per cent resort to the age old method of disguising vegetables on the plate.

Ella’s Kitchen is now wading into the veg refusing nightmare that parents face with their Veg for Victory campaign.

The company is aiming to raise awareness about the benefits of starting weaning with vegetables after finding that just 20 per cent of babies are given real veg as a first food.

Ella’s Kitchen UK Managing Director, Mark Cuddigan says: “We know that introducing a variety of veg during weaning helps steer little ones towards a taste for vegetables which stays with them throughout childhood and beyond, with all the associated health benefits.

“We passionately believe that every baby has the right to a great start in life. There is no doubt that there are benefits to starting weaning with veg and we’re committed to the cause; we hope that people get behind Veg for Victory and help us spread the word.”

From the British Nutrition Foundation, Dr Lucy Chambers believes it’s really important to positively familiarise babies with a wide range of veg during early weaning.

She said: “This is really exciting as we know that the foods most often disliked and rejected by children are vegetables, particularly those that are bitter, such as dark leafy vegetables, and that intake of these foods has many health benefits.”
