New Education Guidance to Support Trans Educators at Work

Education Guidance to Support Trans Educators at work: New guidance to support people working in education who are planning to transition has been made available by the National Education Union.

The union says that many schools and colleges don’t have enough understanding about legal rights, support or even policies in place to help staff going through the process.

This makes it harder for trans educators to stay working in their job and causes discrimination.

“Schools and colleges that nurture diversity, and create inclusive environments for trans workers are able to recruit and retain happier, healthier staff,” Mary Bousted, joint General Secretary of the National Education Union, said.

“They provide crucial role models that reflect the diversity of the UK. Diverse workplaces benefit everybody.”

Leading Trans Equality in Education: A Toolkit for Change has been published by the NEU in development the National Education Union’s Trans Educators’ network. It includes Model transitioning at work policy, Model Transition Care Plan and Know your rights guidance.

It is available on the National Education Union’s website: https://neu.org.uk/advice-and-resources/equalities/trans-educators-toolkit
