20mph Speed Limit Consultation Launched by Bristol City Council

Speed Limit Consultation Bristol:

How well 20mph speed limits are working in Bristol, and with specific focus on certain roads is currently up for consultation.

Local residents are being asked to give their views to see if improvements need to be made to current speed limits and to see whether these limits will remain the same or need to be moved up or down.

The lowered 20mph limits were launched in the city in 2014 and 2015 after a successful pilot scheme in 2010.

“Evidence shows that slower speeds reduce the number and severity of collisions on our roads and the 20mph monitoring report has shown that, on average, speeds on more than 100 surveyed roads have significantly reduced since 20mph limits were introduced,” Cllr Mhairi Threlfall, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity said.

“We’re keen to build on this research which is where the reviews come in to take on board feedback from residents. Please make sure you have your say during the consultation process.”

Police and Bristol City Council initiative Community Speedwatch, will also be promoted during the speed limit review. The project aims to give local residents the opportunity to get involved in neighbourhood road safety.

Through the initiative, residents are able to monitor and log speeds using detection equipment which can be shared back with the police.
