1 per cent of parents conceived their baby in the car

One fifth of babies due to be born in 2010 have not been planned by the parents.

A large study of mums and mums-to-be by the Baby Show, examined the circumstances surrounding the conception of babies due for this year.

Those couples who were trying to conceive took on average between one and three months before their success.

A significant 9.5 per cent conceived whilst on holiday and just under 1 per cent did so in their car.

April was the busiest time of the year for getting pregnant and the most successful day for trying appears to be a Saturday.

The Baby Show is due to return to London ExCel on the 19 -21 February.

Show director, Nicole Muller said: ‘‘The Baby Show carried out this research to paint a picture of how babies are currently conceived in the UK.

It was surprising to see that nearly a fifth of babies due to be born in 2010 were not planned. The fact that most babies were conceived on a Saturday night between the hours of 6pm and 10pm supports the belief that people are making their own entertainment in the current economic climate.’’
