Hard times hits pocket money

Pocket money has been hit by hard times, with the amount of cash given to children falling.

According to research by Halifax, hand outs have hit a seven year low with the average weekly amount now just £5.89.

This figure has fallen from £6.24 in 2009 and a staggering £8.37 in 2005.

The gender pay gap is still evident with boys receiving an average of 40 pence more than girls.

Top pocket money earners live in Wales with children reporting averages of £7.77.

Londoners have experienced a fall from £10.79 also to £7.77.

Children in the South West receive just £5.05.

Around 49 per cent of children think they are getting a fair deal though 42 per cent think they are worth more.
