ABORT MISSION Woodchip Wallpaper Alert – House Buyers Pathetically Put Off By Wallpaper
Why do people do this? If you have the money to spend £300,000 on a house you liked, how can its decoration possibly put you off? You are going to buy it, move in and stamp your own mark on it.
But people are put off by wallpaper and it’s absolutely bizarre.
According to a poll of over 1000 people by DiscountFlooringDepot.co.uk, 37 per cent of people said they would not buy a house if they didn’t like one of the ways in which it had been decorated.
Woodchip on the walls or ceiling put off 43 per cent of people. That’s right. These people were put off of a house because of wallpaper.

And, pebble dashed exteriors were another decorating sin, with 41 per cent claiming they wouldn’t buy a house which had this.
A lucky 35 per cent had the luxury of being able to afford to turn down a home because they thought the flooring was poor quality. And say goodbye to avocado suites, with 28 per cent turning their noses up at bad bathroom fixtures. Here’s betting a tenner that in a couple of years the green bathrooms will become retro cool adding significant house value.
Designer at DiscountFlooringDepot.co.uk, Paula Gray said: “Given how long many first time buyers have to save up to afford their first home, it’s understandable that some are on the hunt for something they can move in to straight away and live in, without having to grin and bear it while saving to cover the cost of repairs or decoration.
“To prevent this from becoming a problem, vendors selling their home should consider making small improvements to help achieve the asking price for their property. Keep walls neutral, consider replacing damaged floors and tiles, and try to do some DIY decorating to remove stubborn superficial aspects such as woodchip, as these can come up as a red flag for home buyers.”
From Long Term Generation Rent, we are handing you a grip to go with your woodchip wallpaper.
