Across the Deep Blue Sea is an enchanting first introduction to puppetry from Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company.

Combing puppetry with some great physical comedy and a singing whale, the 50 minute production captivates children by the sheer brilliance and talent of solo performer Marc Parrett.

The man should be awarded with his own prime time slot on Cbeebies, as he won over both adults and children, a real must for family shows.

The tale of a man in a boat in the middle of the sea finding dry land again, hardly sounds like cutting edge theatre, but its gentle, beautifully crafted story featuring friendly non-threatening puppets provided big laughs throughout.

The simple, inventive set and minimal costume proves that children don’t need the big budgets of the West Ends’ finest to entertain them.

We loved the short animated projection and unique audience participation at the end.

This is the way theatre should be for younger children. Engaging, friendly with no scary bits.

Top notch.
