Badly maintained asbestos in schools affects children and staff

AN infographic aiming to highlight the dangers of asbestos in UK schools has been released by a national helpline.
The Asbestos Advice Helpline is raising awareness about the dangers of asbestos in school buildings and how it may affect those who use them.
Classroom activities such as pinning work to a wall or slamming doors may release asbestos fibres intot he air which may lead to the development related diseases such as Asbestosis and Mesothelioma.
Asbestos Advice Helpline’s Nicola Choa said: “Asbestos was used in school construction, including lagging, ceiling panels, partition walls and sprayed coatings. Much of this asbestos is badly maintained and poses a threat to both pupils and staff alike.”
“Asbestos exposure can lead to related respiratory diseases and it’s something we all need to take more seriously. We’re hoping that the new infographic will grab the attention of parents and educate them about the risks much better than pages of text will.”
