Bath Spa University is celebrating World Teacher’s Day, by inviting former students holding a Certificate of Education to apply for an Honorary Degree.
Those who completed the training prior to 31 December 1981 at one of its predecessor colleges including Bath Academy of Art, Bath College of Domestic Science and Newton Park Teacher Training College, are eligible to apply.
Those taking up the invitation will need to include a copy of their original certificate, or if this is no longer available, information about the main subject of study to search student records.
The university is also keen to see any photographs, reference materials or hear stories about students days of the time.
Head of the School of Education, Kyriaki Anagnostopoulou said: “We really wanted to do something that highlights the fantastic work teachers do in our community, to recognise their contribution to the profession. Having educated teachers at Bath Spa University for over 70 years, we would like to honour our earliest alumni through the offer of Honorary Degrees.”
“We have all been through such a difficult and challenging time, and teachers have worked tirelessly throughout to ensure educational standards are maintained. We would like to encourage anyone who fits the criteria to come forward as soon as possible – the intention is to host a ceremony, Covid restrictions allowing, for those selected for the Honorary Degree.”
