The traditional seaside resort of Southport is preparing for one of its busiest summers for years witha great programmes of events.
Amid forecasts that as many as five million more Brits will holiday in the UK this year, and with more European visitors expected to make the most of the weak pound, Southport has lined up a strong programme of events to entertain visitors of all ages.
Among the highlights are the Southport Food and Drink Festival in May, the Summer Classics concerts in the park in July, August’s Southport Flower Show and the resort’s Air Show in September.
With the resort’s newest hotel, the art deco inspired 4-star Ramada Plaza Hotel Southport, offering top-end accommodation throughout, England’s classic resort seems set for a bumper 2009.

Among the major events being planned for this summer are:
Southport Summer Classics, July 24 – 25
The resort’s beautiful Victoria Park becomes the scene of two nights of dazzling live music. Friday night celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Motown record label with the Magic of Motown, while on Saturday night, the resort welcomes the world-famous Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra to the stage.
Woodvale International Rally, August 1 – 2
Whether its vintage and classic cars, motorbike stunt displays or model aircraft, Woodvale International Rally has it all and more. This two-day outdoor event is an excellent day out for collectors, enthusiasts and families alike.
Southport Flower Show, August 20 – 23
The largest independent show of its kind in the country, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the Southport Flower Show, and promises once again to attract 80,000 visitors to the resort’s Victoria Park.
Southport Air Show, September 26 – 27
Now in it’s 17th year, the Southport Air Show brings together spectacular displays by the likes of the Red Arrows, civilian and military aircraft, Jets, helicopters, aerobatics and parachute displays.
As well as major events, the Ramada Plaza Hotel Southport offers easy access to attractions including the pier, beaches, busy nightlife and famous Lord Street shopping area.
