Benedict Cumberbatch Announced for Mikey Walsh Gypsy Boy Movie

Benedict Cumberbatch is down to star in a new film adaptation of Mikey Walsh’s memoirs Gypsy Boy.

Produced by Dee Koppang and directed by Morgan Matthews, the film is scheduled to start production in the summer next year.

The 2010 best selling Gypsy Boy and Gypsy Boy: On The Run, are two autobiographies which tell the story of Walsh’s life growing up in the Romany Community during the 80s and 90s in England.

Dee Koppang O’Leary says: “I’ve known Mikey since we were teenagers, and I was instantly fascinated by his life story. Mikey and I have been developing this film together with BBC Films for the last few years. Mikey is an incredible writer and a wonderful living and breathing source of material – we can’t wait to tell his inspirational, sincere and heartfelt story. As my first feature film, I’m delighted to and very proud to help bring Gypsy Boy to life on the big screen.”
