Bristol City Council Has No Executive Director of Education

Bristol City Council is currently without an Executive Director of Education, according to its website.

The former Executive Director to hold the role was Abi Gbago.

She remained in charge of Bristol education for just nine months before joining Newham as Chief Executive.

The Executive Director role has overall responsibility for children, families, safer communities, education and skills, a position that has seen three people in the position over the last five years.

This has been Jacqui Jensen, Hugh Evans and most recently Abi Gbago.

On 01 November 2023, a selection committee of Asher Craig, Kerry Bailes, Sarah Classick, Tony Dyer, Steve Smith and Christine Townsend was scheduled to take place. Its agenda states its purpose to be election of a chair. Agenda item 6 saying ‘Appointment of Executive Director Children and Education’.

Bristol City Council’s website currently says ‘The post of Executive Director of the Children and Education Directorate is currently vacant.’
