Bristol City Council Licensing of Private Rented Housing and Where to get Help With Problem Landlords in Bristol

letter bcc

Residents in Bristol are receiving letters from Bristol City Council advising them about changes to the way homes are let by private landlords.

Two licensing schemes will be launched in Eastville and St George in July this year. Private landlords in these areas will have to apply for a license to rent out their properties.

Until now, only Houses in Multiple Occupation were required to be let out under a licensed scheme.

Landlords have until 30 September to submit their application for a license for the new schemes which will run for five years. Those who fail to apply by the date will have to pay a higher fee and could lead to prosecution.

Once properties have been licensed, they will be subject to inspection by the council to make sure they meet suitable standards.
