Bristol’s 20 mph scheme goes into operation

Bristol’s pilot 20 mph speed limit has come into operation in areas of South Bristol.

As part of Bristol’s Cycling City project and working in conjunction with Active Bristol, the lower speed restrictions for motorists are to help encourage more people to walk and cycle as well as keep them safe.

Clear signs and road markings have been placed at the boundaries of the affected areas to inform motorists of the new speed limit.

Cabinet Member for Care and Health, Councillor Jon Rogers said: “20 mph zones create cleaner, safer, friendlier neighbourhoods for cyclists and pedestrians. They are popular with residents, as slower traffic speeds mean children can play more safely and all residents can enjoy calmer environment.”
