Bristol’s New Museum Being Brunel to Open at Brunel’s ss Great Britain in Six Months

The ss Great Britain is one of Bristol’s best treasures and next year, it’s going to get even better.

Work is nearing completion on the brand new museum which is based next to the landmark ship.

Being Brunel, will open its doors to the public in six months time. Visitors will be able to find out more about the city’s favourite engineer – the iconic Isambard Kingdom Brunel – from March 2018.

Brunel’s SS Great Britain, is already Bristol’s no.1 visitor attraction according to TripAdvisor stats. The museum aims to enhance visitor experiences with the engineer’s personal possessions which have not been displayed before.

As well as preserved documents and artefacts, there will be interactive exhibits and audio visual experiences making this a full sensory and learning experience.

“This is a major milestone in the creation of a national centre of Brunel knowledge and expertise, the first of its kind in the UK,” Matthew Tanner, Chief Executive of the SS Great Britain Trust said.

“Many people know of Brunel as one of the world’s influential engineers, but this new museum is about more than his professional achievements. His thoughts, aspirations and frustrations will be revealed as visitors are encouraged to learn about his mistakes and celebrate his successes. By preserving Brunel’s legacy in this way, we hope to also inspire the innovators of the future.”

What makes Brunel’s SS Great Britain one of Bristol’s savviest tourist attractions is that an admission ticket is valid for free unlimited return visits for a whole year. Tickets will also include entrance to the Being Brunel experience as well.
