Bristol’s Remembrance Sunday Parade and Road Closures

Bristol’s Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service 2018:

It’s 100 years since the end of World War One, with Bristol’s commemorations starting from 6am on Sunday 11 November.

A lone piper will be playing Battle’s O’er outside of Bristol Cathedral, joining pipers who will be playing the same tune at venues across the country.

The military parade will leave College Green for the Cenotaph at 10.20am, commanded by Lt Col C Read RM of the Royal Marine Reserve Bristol.

Gun fire will mark the start of the two minute silence at 11am, an act of remembrance for all those who ‘gave their lives serving their country’. A service and wreath laying will follow this before the parade returns to College Green.

‘’Remembrance Sunday is a time when the people of Bristol join the rest of the nation to remember and honour the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to their country,” Cllr Cleo Lake, Lord Mayor of Bristol said.

“This year’s parade holds particular significance as it marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, and in Bristol, we will join with others across the nation to mark this day with dignity and respect. I would like to invite everyone to join us on Sunday to line the route, witness the parade and participate in the service.”

Road closures in Bristol will start from 5am and be in operation until around 1pm.

Bus routes into and out of Bristol City Centre will be affected during this time, with diversions and rearranged stops here: https://travelwest.info/travel_update/bristol-road-closures-and-bus-diversions-for-remembrance-day-sunday-11-november-2018
