Brunel’s SS Great Britain Lays on Tasty Treats During Easter Holidays

  • Brunel’s SS Great Britain lays out Victorian pudding samples for guests this Easter holiday

Brunel’s SS Great Britain will be putting on tasty treats for visitors during the Easter holidays. The much-loved ship overlooking Hotwells, will be laying on traditional Victorian puddings for people to taste on days out to the ship from 01 – 16 April 2023.

Two different desserts will be served up during the event.

Plum pudding was a typical dessert served to passengers in all classes of travel. At the time, guests in first class would have had a plum pudding featuring raisins, sultanas, candied peel, nutmeg and cinnamon. Guests in other classes of transport would also have had plum pudding but theirs would have been a much plainer version.

Described as a ‘sweet treat’, the clear citrus jelly – inspired by a moulded dolphin dish – was served on board in 1861 for the ship’s 18th birthday celebrations.

The desserts will be served between 12pm-2pm each day in the First-Class Dining Saloon. Guests will also be able to see a fully dressed table with full sized replicas of each of the dishes.

As well as the usual access to the ship and museums, there will be an Easter animal trail for children to complete, with a chocolate treat at the end.

The Victorian pudding experience is included in the cost of the admission, with tickets available for booking at: www.ssgreatbritain.org
