Children Pick Up and Worry About Adult Problems
Children absorb everything around them even adult family woes. Though death is a common childhood worry, other adult problems such as debt and divorce were also found to be troubling children.
VoucherCodesPro, surveyed 2319 parents with a child aged ten years or under about the things that children worried about.
According to their findings, a 65 per cent said that they discovered their young child fretting about things they felt they were too young for.
The top five worries children had were:
That loved ones will die 48 per cent
Money/financial issues 37 per cent
That they won’t have a successful career 30 per cent
Their own personal safety 29 per cent
That their parents will break up 25 per cent
Hearing things in the school playground caused 37 per cent of children to worry about adult things, but 33 per cent picked up things like financial issues and divorce from overhearing conversations from adults around them.
Shockingly, 44 per cent of parents reassured the child everything would be OK, whilst 39 per cent deliberately lied to make their child drop the issue. Just 17 per cent explained situations honestly to their child.
