Children will do extra sport if dad’s taxi is open for business
Children are not getting support from their parents when it comes to taking part in sport outside the classroom.
Despite 39 per cent of parents wanting their children to spend their leisure time playing sport, one in five children aged six to eleven are not receiving the support to do so according the research from David Lloyd Leisure.
A 50 per cent of boys and 15 per cent of girls questioned for the research said they would play more sport if their parents were prepared to taxi them to sports clubs to do so.
Head of Family and Programming at David Lloyd Leisure, Sarah Hobbs said:“Parents play a vital role in determining how physically active their children are. The results reveal that while parents feel their children should be more active, their behaviour is not supporting this belief.”
