Children worrying about their obese parents

UK youngsters are worrying about the rising level of obesity in their parents.

Rather than how much they drink or smoke, big waistbands are more concerning to kids according to a new report by Atkins.

The Atkins’ survey questioned young people aged between 11 and 16 years of age, looking to find their opinions on the health of their parents.

A 47 per cent revealed they were most concerened about their parent’s weight.

Atkins dietitian Linda O’Byrne, said: “These figures show how seriously young people consider the problem of parental obesity. We were astounded to discover that they actually consider it to be a greater health threat than the amount their parents smoke or drink.

“On one level it is encouraging that young people are recognising that obesity is a real health hazard but on the other hand it is extremely worrying that so many young people are concerned about their parents being overweight.”
