Chopsy Baby is Reviewing… Book: Matilda’s Secret from A Girl For All Time
Chopsy Baby Says: “A brilliant read for girls aged seven years upwards.”
Rating: 10/10
What is it?
Matilda Marchmont is a doll that has really been brought alive by its team of creators at A Girl for All Time.
As well as being a doll, her story has also been turned into a novel. This is part of a real mother’s attempt to create a line of dolls for girls aged six years and above to engage them in age appropriate intelligent and social play.
Matilda’s noble, but poor and simple life in Norfolk takes a turn towards excitement and danger when she becomes lady-in-waiting to her cousin Katherine Howard at the dangerous court of Henry VIII.
We know from the start that this is not a story with a happy ending, but Sandra Goldbacher brings alive what can be a rather dry page in the history books.
Girls will really be able to relate to this story. It features historically accurate events and contexts from the Tudor time whilst following the personal thoughts and fears of 13 year old Matilda and the journey she takes from child to confidant of the doomed queen.
The story is not complex and both a delightful and gripping read perfectly embracing the age group it is aimed at.
Best of all…
A gripping read for children
Could improve…
Nothing, it’s fab
Basically…
Perfectly pitched at that awkward primary school to senior school aged child.
