Chopsy Baby is reviewing… Delph Sun Care: Kids On The Go SPF 30 Trigger Spray and Sun Block 50

The Delph Sun Care range is one of only seven sun creams listed on the UK Drug Tariff and tested to medical standards. This means it is available on prescription from GPs.

The range – which is not tested on animals – is available from SPF Factor 8 – 50 and rated UVA 4*.

Chopsy Baby’s Jen Smith with one-year-old Astrid and four-year-old Sid.

Jen says: “Applying sun cream to children seems to be a bit of a landmine these days. Some schools of thought believe the sun to be so strong that we should always apply sun cream before we leave the house.

“Others believe that we should spend a short period of time in the sun before applying sun cream so children do not develop a Vitamin D deficiency. It seems as parents we can never win.

“One thing parents are unlikely to lose on is using Delph. Having tested out two products from their sun cream range, I have found them to be winners.

“There is a Delph product for all ages. I used the Sun Block 50 on my one-year-old and the Kid’s Trigger Spray on my four-year-old.

“The first thing I managed to do was break the trigger spray. Though technically, this probably rendered the idea behind the product a little pointless, it was no great hardship to unscrew the lid and apply cream in the manual way.

“This spray comes with an SPF of 30. The Sun Block is a whopping factor 50 and aimed for young or delicate skin.

“Both products are great. They do the job with the minimum of fuss and protected both children’s skin whilst out in very hot sun.

“The Kid’s spray is good because it comes out light green in colour, showing where it has been applied. Neither product was thick or cloying on the skin. Both lotions rubbed into skin well and smelled inoffensive.

“Though very young babies should never be in direct sunlight, young crawlers will not always be in the shade of a pram hood. The  gentle Delph sun block will protect their delicate skin from burning.

“The trick with sun cream is firstly to buy a trusted brand, something Delph certainly is. But a product will only work as well as it is used. A good teaspoon full is needed for each limb and needs to be reapplied regularly and after getting out of water. Sun lotion can work out to be a costly product if applied correctly. But for safety, there is no point scrimping on its application. That would be pointless.

“I have used the Kid’s spray on my oldest child before he goes to school every day and the Sun Block gets popped in the bag for nursery.

“Having used a variety of sun lotions over the years, Delph is one of the few I will continue to use.”
