Chopsy Baby is Reviewing: Fruit Bowl

Fruit Bowl creates a range of fruity snacks containing the equivalent of one of your five a day. They are ideal for lunchboxes in complementing fruit portions and replacing the usual fat laden crisps, biscuits or cake. The gluten free snacks are made with real fruit and are suitable for vegetarians.

Of the Fruit Bowl range, dietitian, health writer and nutritionist, Dr Carrie Ruxton says: “The Fruit Bowl range of fruity treats offers a much better option to snacks like crisps and biscuits which are generally high in sugar and fat. The Fruit Bowl School Bars and Fruit Peelers in their colourful and fun packaging are particularly good; they contain 80g of fruit so count as one of your child’s 5 a day.”

The School Bars are great for lunchboxes. They won’t sweat like a chocolate biscuit and better still counts towards the five-a-day. The snack is really tasty and made with apple puree and concentrated strawberry, apple and pear juices. Fruit Bowl School Bars £1.59 for a box of 5 bars.

Our Verdict: Great for school lunch boxes and really tasty without being a sweet. 9/10

Snacking between meals can be good for you as it can reduce your calorie intake by curbing overeating. Of course, sweets, crisps and chocolate won’t be good. Neither will fizzy drinks or cake. Fruit portions are perfect, but for those who won’t go within a metre of the stuff, Fruit Bowl’s Yogurt Coated Fruit Flakes are a great snack. One packet contains just under half a portion of the five-a-day. £2.00 for five 25g packs.

Our Verdict: Great for a quick after school snack while dinner is cooking. 8/10

Fruit bowl snacks are available from Asda, Morrison’s, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s supermarkets nationwide.
