Chopsy Baby is reviewing… Snazaroo Face Painting Kit and Face Painting Sticks

The Snazaroo Face Painting Kit is a hypo allergenic, non-toxic pallet of face paints that will do around 50 faces and comes with a step by step guide.
In this pack there are eight colours – that can be mixed to create more – and a brush and sponge.
The paints can be removed with soap and water.
Here’s a tip – if your child gets very attached to their painted face, don’t remind them about it and give them a flannel to wash it off themselves when they are sat in the bath.

The paints were good strong colours that applied really nicely by sponge or brush. Very quickly, the children started to face paint each, having plenty of fun doing so. Conventional styles made way for Piccasso-esque green tigers or Pollocky cats.
At the end of a good hour’s play, the colours ended up in a mess. But, after running the whole pallet under the tap for twenty seconds, the individual colours cleaned up perfectly.

One four year old child did have a mild allergic reaction to one of the colours, but a one year old with really delicate skin was fine.
The only real issue with the paints was the packaging. It is difficult to immediately find any instructions about age suitability, application or removal because the packaging design is a little cluttered and comes in many languages.

The Snazaroo Face Painting Sticks are a version of the above but in easy grip sticks. The paints are non-toxic, hypo-allergenic and can be removed with soap and water.
We had less success with these, but this was mainly due to a complete lack of understanding into how they should be applied. It is not clear from the packaging whether they should be used with water, or directly applied. The top wrapping around the top of the paint stick was a little tricky to remove. But left in the hands of curious and supervised toddlers, the younger ones loved to join in by drawing squiggles and marks on their arms and legs. The packaging states that they are not suitable for children under the age of three years due to being a choking hazard, but with close supervision, the under threes really enjoyed painting themselves.
Snazaroo Halloween Face Painting Sticks are priced at £4.99 per kit.
Snazaroo has a good reputation amongst professional child face painters and this extends into their kits for home use.
The step by step guide aside, the children loved to paint each other with their own designs, completely led by imagination.
Snazaroo also have Little Devil, Wicked Witch, Ghastly Ghoul & Skull and Horror Wound kits theme packs which are priced at £3.99.
