Chopsy Baby is Reviewing: The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken – Random House
This wonderful children’s book, is a fairy tale for older children – around the age of nine years upwards. In fact, adults who remember the 1989 film will enjoy coming back to its original source. The children’s mild horror story was written by Joan Aiken in the sixties. Set in a fantasy historical period where wolves roamed the countryside of England, it has one foot in reality, well in the past, and is also somewhat distopian in nature.
Youngsters Bonnie and Sylvia are treated badly by their governess Miss Slighcarp, who gets rid of the servants and sends the two cousins away as soon as their parent’s backs are turned.
This publication contains the original unabridged text and is one of a series of children’s classic published as Vintage Classics by Random House.
